Northwestern Polytechnic Partnership Agreement
New agreement between Northwestern Polytechnic and SMUSVM benefits future Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students.
SMUSVM and Northwestern Polytechnic: Strengthening Educational Pathways for Aspiring Veterinarians.
St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine (SMUSVM) and Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) are happy to share this new partnership agreement that will support aspiring Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students in Alberta, Canada. Students from NWP’s Veterinary Technology Diploma Program will receive several benefits as a result of this impactful new pathway.
Excitingly, eligible NWP graduates who apply to the SMUSVM DVM program will experience an expedited application review process, be guaranteed an admissions interview and qualify for a $10,000 USD Partnership Scholarship to be applied towards their tuition costs. Additionally, they are also eligible for other impactful grants and scholarships, such as the U.S. and Canadian Academic Scholarship (up to $65,000 USD) and Opportunity Grant ($5,000 USD).
In order to qualify for these partner benefits, Northwestern Polytechnic graduates must apply within five years after graduation, must have an overall GPA of 2.7 or higher, must successfully complete all designated prerequisite coursework and must have obtained their Veterinary Technology Diploma.

This specific pathway allows students an additional opportunity to pursue their dream of obtaining their DVM at St. Matthew’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in an accelerated time frame of 3.25 years and assist with the gaps that we face in animal care,” said Ruby Gilani, Director of Veterinary Recruitment, North America.

NWP students who attend SMUSVM will experience hands-on training as soon as their first semester, as well as unique access to small animals and aquatic reptilian care (a special feature of veterinary education on Grand Cayman). Regular training for and access to large animals is certainly provided as well. They will also experience a strong curriculum, meaningful instruction in intentionally small class sizes and extensive support services. Hundreds of former DVM students have benefitted from this quality educational environment and gone on to practice in the U.S., Canada and many other countries.
